【摘要】:SoilORP,inconjunctionwithothersoilcharacteristicssuchaselectricalresistivity(seeTestMethodsG57andG187),isusedtopredictcorrosiontendenciesofburiedmetallicstructures(forexample,pipelinesandculverts.TheORPofthesoilisoneofmanyfactorsthatinfluencestructureservicelife.Itsmeasurementisusedinthedesignofnewburiedstructuresandintheevaluationofexistingburiedstructures.SoilORPisatime-sensitivemeasurement.Foranaccurateindicationofsoilcorrosivity,themeasurementshouldbemadeassoonaspracticableafterremovalofthesoilsamplefromtheground.TheuserofthistestmethodisresponsiblefordeterminingthesignificanceofreportedORPmeasurements.ORPaloneshouldtypicallynotbeusedincharacterizingthecorrosivityofaparticularsoil.ORPmeasurementsareappropriatewhenevaluatingoxygenrelatedreactions.ORPmeasurementscansometimesbequitevariableandnon-reproducible.Thisisrelated,inpart,tothegeneralheterogeneityofagivensoil.Itisalsorelatedtotheintroductionofincreasedoxygenintothesampleafterextraction.TheinterpretationofsoilORPshouldbeconsideredintermsofitsgeneralrangeratherthanasanabsolutemeasurement.ORPmeasurementscanbeusedtodetermineifaparticularsoilhasthepropensitytosupportmicrobiologicallyinfluencedcorrosion(MIC)attack.Thesemeasurementscanalsobeusedtoprovideanindicationofwhethersoilconditionswillbeaerobicoranaerobic.AppendixX1providesreferenceguidelinesforgeneralinterpretationofORPdata.1.1Thistestmethodcoversaprocedureandrelatedtestequipmentformeasuringoxidation-reductionpotential(ORP)ofsoilsamplesremovedfromtheground.1.2TheprocedureinSection9isappropriateforfieldandlaboratorymeasurements.1.3Accuratemeasurementofoxidation-reductionpotentialaidsintheanalysisofsoilcorrosivityanditsimpactonburiedmetallicstructurecorrosionrates.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
