本标准规定了单根电线电缆水平燃烧试验的设备、试样、试验步骤和试验结果评定。本标准适用于检验单根拖曳软电缆在水平状态下用规定火焰直接燃烧时的阻燃性能，特别适用于矿井下使用的拖曳软电缆。通过本标准的试验，并不意味着在所有使用条件下，例如成束使用时也具有相同的阻燃性。
